Tiara A. Cash (she/they) [Tee-aye-rah]  is a researcher, practitioner, and community care specialist committed to the well-being of individuals and communities through mindful awareness and cultural grounding. She is focused on co-creating trainings, workshops, and “containers” that include the novel framework Equitable Mindfulness*. With this Equitable Mindfulness Framework, Tiara has been featured NPR (National Public Radio) and has a TEDx talk exploring the foundations of this concept.

Tiara was born and raised in Memphis, TN and appreciates her cultural roots to the south. She is a Black American woman with Indigenous Heritage (Non-enrolled Mississippi Chahta & North Carolina Tsalagi descendant) who learned mindfulness from a South Asian perspective. These intersections are extremely important to her as she continues to conceptualize the intersections of cultural mindfulness within systemically marginalized and overburdened populations and those working with individuals in those populations. She has over 20 years of personal practice of mindfulness and meditation and as a practitioner of mindfulness for the last 10+ years, she has worked in various settings including higher education, athletics, and the non-profit sector.

Tiara has been granted scholarships, grants, and awards for her research and work with mindfulness in the student-athlete population, mindfulness, and equity/social justice, and utilizing prosocial behaviors (giving back to community) as a way to help mitigate well-being during life transitions. For the last 3 years, she has been invited internationally to speak and present on her research. Her career focuses include delving into the intersections of mindfulness in systemically marginalized and overburdened populations, and how to boost wellbeing during common life transitions.

Tiara is also a budding author – completing her first children’s book Little Brown Girl, You Belong* in September 2023. The book is a tribute to young brown women and girls and a reminder of how incredibly lucky the world is to have them as a part of it.
